How we'll do the retreat

  • Intension: The retreats offer an opportunity to renew and deepen our practice of Self-Compassion, within an environment enhanced by silence
  • We will arrive Friday late afternoon and take some time in the evening to settel into this together before silence begins
  • The topics I'll deliver every day will be the suggested reflection for that day. The topics will all evolve around  Self-Compassion and caregiver situations and relationships. I'm drawing upon more contemplative wisdom practices, and we'll explore the topics through mindfulness, self-compassion and intentional reflections
  • It is recommended that you journal, as it - for many of us - is a good way to process stuff. Please bring a journal if you like
  • The time with no formal guidance will be for self-led practices and time for reflecting on the topic of the day. You may choose to do this while taking a walk or otherwise using your body and or being in nature. Or you can rest, use the park and let's hope for sunny weather so we can stay outside all the time.

How we do silence

  • It is recommended that you do not use laptops, phones, or other devices during the retreat, if at all possible.
  • I am aware that it may be relevant for the family to be able to connect with you, and so I suggest that you consider setting up a time every day for yourself to check your phone and see if there are any messages from family you need to respond to.

  • Please refrain from doing work-related stuff.
  • I will offer this retreat in what is called 'companiable silence'. This invited to remembering that we're doing this together, and smiles, eye contact and other non verbal signs of connection are most welcome. Also, I may invite to a brief sharing at the end of the topic of the day, but we will not go into any dialoque.
  • It can be good to remember that silent retreats does not mean no sounds at all, it merely invites to not speak. Silence makes it easier to  establish a deeper connection inside to ourselves, as we for a few days pause the business of everyday life. Also, our chef will be cooking in the kitchen close by. There are not many neigbors, but whatever sounds or noise there may be around are welcomed. 
  • Some have asked if you can leave the venue during the retreat - and yes you can.  If you bring a car or bike, you ar ewelcome to take tours in the area, and I can guide you if you like.

About the venue

Kongsø Bed&Breakfast is close to Billund Airport and easy to reach with public transport.

The address is: Kongsø 2-4, 8654 Bryrup.

They are located within the forest, and the closest small town is 5 km away. There are still lots of opportunities for hiking and swimming. We’ll have our own space for meditation and teachings, a separate dining area, and basically, we’ll be the only ones there most of the time.

Image on the left is the entrance with stairs up the the rooms and bathrooms. Rooms are on first floor and all of them share bathrooms. There are 6 rooms, and therefore one participant will be staying at a local airbnb in Bryrup.


NB:

- Mobile reception is very poor in the forest! We have wifi there, so whatsapp or messenger may be easier to use

- Only some of the rooms have keys to lock, so please bring a small purse to have your wallet, passport or other belongings with you. We're there alone, except for the night between Saturday and Sunday when there are two others who had pre-booked a night there.

Food

All food served is vegetarian, inspired by ayurveda and prepared from local fresh produce. Main meal is at lunch.

    How to get there

    If you come by car

    The address is Kongsø 2, 8654 Bryrup.
    Set your GPS to 'Kongsø 2, Bryrup'. (Not Kongsøvej ! If you do not have the letter 'ø', then try 'oe' which is the same in danish)

    The house is located in the forest.

    When you drive in along the road (after you have just turned off Silkeborgvej) you will see signs that say "driving is not allowed" and "access for unauthorized persons is prohibited".......just drive on and when you get to the clearing a little further ahead, it is the property on the right.

    Continue all the way along the large yellow house on its right side and park by the white stones with a P.

    Park against the house or between the trees, so that the forest people have passage down to the black hunting lodge.

    This is what the main road - Silkeborgvej - looks like when you arrive from Bryrup.  The small sign is where you drive into Kongsø.
    If you are arriving from Billund, you will have the signs on your left hand.

    Public transport

    From SILKEBORG
    If you arrive from Silkeborg by bus nr 215 (goes towards Vejle), then you ask the driver to stop here at Kongsø. It is approx 4 km after Bryrup.

    From BILLUND
    Bus 143 from Billund Airport to Vejle Station, and then bus 215 (toward Silkeborg), and ask the driver to stop at Kongsø, approx 7 km after Nr. Snede.

    Teacher Training comming up?
    If you planto use this retreat as a prerequisite for the MSC Teacher Training, then you need to attend all our sessions (you can miss 2 if I approve of it/know why).


    Rent a car?
    Would it be helpful to rent a car? Well, if you like to be able to go around the area on the self-led practice time, you can. There are no close by shops that are easily accesible by foot. But you do not need a car.


    Taxi from Billund
    Taxis are fairly expensive in Denmark, so I'll encourgae you to go together in taxi from Billund. Taxis are approx 12,6 DKK per km, and there is approx 43 km from Billund to Kongsø. See google maps here
